The Gyrotonic® Expansion System is a totally new one to one exercise system for well being and health, which exercises the musculature while mobilising and articulating the joints. It is unique in that it strengthens and stretches at the same time with minimal effort, increasing the range of movement and co-ordination. It uses aspects of, swimming, ballet, yoga, tai chi and gymnastics. The system allows muscle groups to be worked interdependently and in an integrated manner.

The Gyrotonic® training is done on a specially designed piece of equipment (The White Cloud Machine) which emphasises multiple joint articulation strengthening the surrounding ligaments including the attachments. The exercises use hand and foot-operated wheelbases and suspended pulleys to create resistance. There are 50 sets of exercises with about 130 variations to stretch, bend, twist and turn muscles with minimal effort.

The motion patterns are natural and flowing and through the rotating movement patterns of the joints a balanced support system for the skeleton is created. Attention is given to increase the functional capacity of the spine resulting in a well proportioned body, which is less likely to incur injury. Correcting such muscular imbalances and limitations in joint range of motion helps to reduce and even eradicate fatigue, pain and immobility.
