Gillian O’Kane BSc Hons – Specialised Women’s Health Physiotherapist
Gillian returned to higher education in 2005 where she gained an HND in Sports Therapy from Central College of Commerce in 2007. She then graduated with a BSc Hons in Physiotherapy from Glasgow Caledonian University in 2011. She began working as a physiotherapist within the NHS gaining experience in various areas such as orthopaedics, medical and elderly rehabilitation, musculoskeletal, women’s health and respiratory physiotherapy. Over the period 2014 – 2016 she also gained valuable experience treating many musculoskeletal injuries within the private sector.
Her skills continued to develop gaining a Diploma in Sports and Remedial Massage from the Western School in 2012. She then went on to complete a foundation course in acupuncture in 2014, more recently enhancing her skills in acupuncture in women’s health in 2018 and also gaining a Diploma in pregnancy massage.
Gillian began to specialise in women’s health, an area she feels very passionate about in February 2015. Working as a senior physiotherapist in obstetrics and gynaecology within the NHS, she has the pleasure of treating many conditions from pregnancy related back and pelvic pain, carpal tunnel syndrome, restless legs and nausea to postnatal musculoskeletal issues including abdominal and pelvic floor rehabilitation.
Gillian has since completed her Pilates mat work series 1-3 through the Australian Physiotherapy & Pilates Institute and has built up her own business teaching beginners through to advanced, including antenatal classes and also offers one to one tuition.
